Suspicious House Fire and Two Deaths Remain Under Investigation

The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office has issued an update regarding Thursday’s suspicious house fire and two deaths.

Johnathon C. Massey, 19, of Paris has been initially charged with Theft of Property (in relation to the missing truck) with no bond. The investigation into a fire at a home in the 3700 block of East Clark’s Chapel Road and the death investigation are still ongoing. ​

The identity of the victims is still pending results of an autopsy at the Arkansas State Crime Lab. Captain Philip Pevehouse stated that “SCSO believes we know the identity of the two victims, but verification is needed for positive identification.” Pevehouse also noted that several other witnesses have cooperated with SCSO investigators. ​

Massey took the truck from the home and returned to Logan County where he was apprehended by the Arkansas State Police, acting upon a BOLO, put out by SCSO. He was found in the truck with bloody clothing. “​Crime scene investigators and FSFD arson investigators were at the crime scene this morning continuing to process evidence,” stated Pevehouse. “Evidence needing further processing will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for testing and analysis.”

The ​Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office CID and Sebastian County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing to work closely as the investigation continues. Pevehouse concluded by stated that “this is a fluid case and no future charging decisions have been made at this time.”
