Students and athletes will see a few changes in staff for the upcoming school year. The Greenwood Board of Education voted on May 14 to appoint the following:
Assistant Principal at East Hills Middle School
Jamie Barnes will serve as Assistant Principal of East Hills Middle School. Barnes is replacing Tim Golden, who recently moved to a teaching position at Greenwood Junior High School.
Barnes was born and raised in Greenwood. She graduated from GHS, earned a Bachelor in Science in Elementary Education from Arkansas Tech University, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.
As a teacher, Barnes was a “Teacher of the Year” award recipient in Texas, where she began her teaching career. She taught kindergarten for 13 years at Westwood Elementary School, Reading Recovery at East Pointe Elementary for five years, and has served as an Instructional Facilitator and Dyslexia Interventionalist for East Hills Middle School for the past four years.
She is married to John Barnes, and has three children, Brady, Tatum and Molly.
Assistant Principal at Greenwood High School
Travis Sandifer will serve as Assistant Principal of Greenwood High School. Sandifer will replace Mark Shumate, who will now serve as the School District Coordinator for Research and Implementation of Online Learning Services.
Sandifer has been employed by the Greenwood School District for the past six years as a computer science teacher, assistant football coach and assistant baseball coach. Sandifer is a graduate of GHS and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. In addition to his credentials in business, Sandifer has obtained his teaching license and has received advanced training for computer science. As defense back coach for the Greenwood Bulldogs, Sandifer has excelled under the direction of his former high school coach, Rick Jones.
He is married to Hannah Sandifer, a third grade teacher at Westwood Elementary. They have a son, Navy, and a baby due September 2020.
School District Coordinator for Research and Implementation of Online Learning Services
Mark Shumate will serve as School District Coordinator for Research and Implementation of Online Learning Services. He has served as Assistant Principal at Greenwood High School for the past seven years.
Shumate graduated from Paris High School in 1995. He graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. He began his teaching career in Morrilton as an assistant band director. After four years, he was promoted to the high school band director’s position.
The next year, Shumate moved to Midland, Texas, where he completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. While in Midland, he was Assistant Principal at Midland Freshman High School and Principal at Alamo Junior High School. After four years in Midland, he returned to Arkansas.
Before coming to Greenwood, Shumate was the High School Principal at Mena. While there, he completed an Education Specialist degree through Arkansas Tech University.
Special Teams Coordinator/Running Backs Coach
Chase Meyers will serve as the new Special Teams Coordinator/Running Backs Coach. Coach Meyers was previously the special teams coordinator at North Little Rock High School. Prior to that, he served as an Offensive Coordinator in Texas.
He is married to Shawna Whitley Meyers, and have four children.
