For members of the community and the alumni, it’s no secret, the Greenwood School District is one of the best in the state. Touting a tagline of “Excellence in Education,” the district takes pride that their students excel in the classroom, as well as in extracurricular activities.
Greenwood Schools Assistant Superintendent, and Public Relations Director Suzanne Wilson explained that the numerous state championships in football, basketball, tennis, golf, bowling, cross country, wrestling, trap shooting, cheer, E-sports, etc., as well as the top academic scores from grades K-6 are all evidence of this claim to excellence.
“Westwood Elementary and East Pointe Elementary schools are consistently ranked in the top 10% of elementary schools in the state for standardized testing,” stated Wilson. “East Hills Middle Schools has received top 10% award money from the state for top academic achievement for the past five years, while Greenwood Jr. High has received this same award for three years in a row. Greenwood High School was named the #1 public high school in the state and Greenwood Freshman Center received the Computer Science award check from Governor Asa Hutchinson as one of the top Computer Science programs in the state.”
The district’s most recent honor was being named by Niche as the #2 best school district in the state. Taking first place, the Bentonville School District and #3, the Fayetteville School District. “This distinction by Niche comes from an extensive scoring that combines test scores, teacher experience, classroom size, diversity and equity, and safety to arrive at the final rankings.”
Wilson added that as Greenwood continues to grow, the school leadership will focus on keeping the excellence, as well as the focus on relationships between students, teachers, and parents. “Through strong parental involvement, good community relations, and strong vision there is a bright future for Greenwood and its school district for many years to come,” concluded Wilson.
Niche, an online research site, shares reviews of U.S. colleges, schools, neighborhoods, and companies. They generate report cards and rankings, aiding parents in their search for top notch schools.
In addition to the #2 overall ranking, Niche also published the following reports:
- Greenwood ranked #2 for the best teachers in Arkansas
- Greenwood ranked #1 for the best place to teach in Arkansas
- Westwood Elementary ranked #5 as best teachers in the state
- Greenwood High School is the #2 PUBLIC high school for STEM in the state.
Congratulations to the district’s students, parents, administrators, faculty and staff on this statewide recognition.
