As the General Election in November approaches, candidates for city council should be aware that the filing period opens in July.
According to the Sebastian County Clerk’s office, the candidates can phone their office in Greenwood to get their information packet. Petitions can now be circulated.
A municipal candidate in a mayor-council form of government seeking election at the November 3, 2020 General Election must file with the county clerk a petition, a political practices pledge, and an affidavit of eligibility between July 29, 2020 and noon on August 5, 2020.
The petition must identify the office sought and, if for council member, a position number. The position sought cannot be changed once identified on the petition. In order to run for a different position, the original petition must be withdrawn and a new petition designating a different position filed before the filing deadline.
